Low, mid, high, taper and zero fades — what they are, how they differ, and how to ask for the right one.
"Fade" is one of the most-requested words in any barbershop — but it covers a whole family of cuts. Here's a plain-English breakdown so you can walk in knowing exactly what to ask for.
A fade is a gradual blend from longer hair on top down to shorter hair (or skin) at the sides and back. The magic is in the transition — a clean fade has no harsh lines, just a smooth gradient.
Tell your barber two things: where you want the fade to start (low, mid, high) and how short at the bottom (a guard length, or all the way to skin). Bring a photo if you've got one — it never hurts.
Our barbers do every fade in the book, from a soft taper to a crisp zero fade. Walk in any day, or call (503) 585-0754. Serving Salem and Keizer since 1982.
